"Enough obsessing over food and just do...something!"
For a long time I’ve been tossing up ideas of how I could make food my livelihood. I’m not harsh enough to be a food critic; I’m not talented enough to be a home-cook-blogger type character but I’ve always loved hearing people talk and seeing how they interact with food, so a thought came to me; I should be the one out there asking the questions (because a journalism degree and unshakeable millenial self belief is all you need!)
Early on in my thought process I started really getting into knowing where my food was coming from and the consequences of my food decisions. There’s information out there and I know there are stories but I couldn’t find anyone who was telling them. And they’re exactly the stories I want to see told, from people that I most admire.
So I made a video magazine. It’s something different. Something people can look forward to, something they can engage with. Something that challenges entrenched ideas and presents new ones.
Starting this week, PICKLES Magazine will release a video each fortnight featuring conversations with the pioneers changing the landscape of food for the better. We'll explore what they’re doing with food, hear their thoughts on the future of it and learn some tips and tricks while we’re at it. Oh and there will be food. Tonnes and tonnes of food.
We want to get people thinking about food in a deeper, more thoughtful way. Not only thinking about how good it looks or how healthy it is, but what it means to eat it, where it comes from and how it impacts the environment, the community and the people who create it. The whole cycle. This stuff matters; people need to know about it. But I promise it’ll be fun! It won’t be preachy; trust me, I hate that stuff too. I want you to make up your own minds about food and the reasons why you eat what you do. I just want to give you the information you need to do that.
We have some pretty amazing people to introduce you to and food thinks that will blow your little mind holes. And you should hear them 'cause you all like food and interesting people and helping things, right? Yep. Sweet!
My hope for you is to enjoy it, learn something new and maybe try it for yourselves. You’ll be amazed how far a little food knowledge can go.
So join us on our PICKLES adventure and let’s change the world of food.
